My paintings are coming along!
I love to wait for the right moment
of applying another coat,
feel it blend with the previous one and
mix and smooth it until I get the right hue.

Sometimes the next layer will be painted
a couple of days after the previous one,
it depends on the drying point it has reached.
Other times I will wait until
it is almost completely dry,
so that I can drag the next layer over it
and with it scratch the underlying one.

I love looking at the various stages
of the paintings sometimes for days.
Some turn into a new painting altogether.

The surprise factor enhances the pleasure of painting.

Finally managed to sew a bias along
the neckline of the completed baby blouse.
It's easier than I thought it would be.
It will definitely become a nice
finishing technique for future knits. I love the
way it trims the knit.

PAINTING IN PROGRESS II

Starting to put oil paint over the acrylic sketch.

and while I was at it...
tackled a previous painting I hadn't really finished.

PAINTING IN PROGRESS

Still in acrylic. That's when I lay down
the project for the colors I'm going to add.

STARTED A NEW PAINTING

First draft in acrylic

RED ZIPPERED POUCH

ZIPPERED POUCH 2

Finished another zippered pouch.
Red is definitely my color.
Can't say I'm crazy about sewing zipper,
but they really are a very practical
and secure way of closing things...
stuff... you know, bags, sweaters, etc...

ARMREST PROTECTOR

I needed an ARMREST PROTECTOR

Since it's a wide armrest, I usually
put a lot of stuff on it.
A book, my reading glasses,
even my notebook fits on it.

As you can see, the fabric on my couch
is very light and I have the illusion that
a proctector will keep it this way
for a long time... he he.

As usually, I didn't measure anything
and just added patches until
it grew to a suitable size.

I like the vivid colours and,
as you've already noticed,
reds are my favorite colours.

ZIPPERED POUCH

The project for this pouch has been
lying around for a veeeeeeeeeeery long time.
Months maybe.

The truth is that I was intimidaded
by the zipper, since all my attempts till now
have not been very successful
(though I must say that I gave up after nr. 2).

Anyway, since I have been really
slowed in my sewing projects because
of all the techniques I don't master,
I decided that the only way I could
learn to do things was to tackle them
and keep trying until I learn it.

Sounds very logical doesn't it,
but I'm not too good at dealing
with frustrations, especially after
I have put so much work,
energy and time into it.

Well, this one turned out right.
I am very pleased with the results
and have decided to make another
something with a zipper right away
so that I feel more confident and maybe get
a bit more familiarized with the process.

This is the outcome:

PILLOW

I HAVE BEEN CAT SITTING !

The most adorable and friendly pussy cat.

And some more sewing.

This pillow is just the right size to give some back support for the long knitting hours sitting on the couch.
Just perfect!

Now I realize that it could use some embellishment, some trimming, a bias or some rick rack. Oh well, next time, next pillow.

VERY IMPRESSIVE

I just stumbled upon Caylee Raber's site

and was very impressed by her clean and simple, yet sophisticated design.

Her work is also humanitarian,
since this softie above
is designed for children in
hospital care.

This Standing Aid
is designed for supporting
children with
limited stability.

Check her site and resume.

POUCH

Long no sew!
(A flu has kept me busy lately,
but I'm up and in business again (smile).

Started slowly...
and made a pouch for my
sewing machine notions

and here is what it looks like

by the way, it took me a lot of search work
to find some of Momo's Freebird fabrics
again

Thanks to our Etsy friends for these
little treasures.

KINDLE COZY

My KINDLE COZY didn't turn out
quite the way I wanted it to.

It fits snuggly, but it is on the short side.

The seams are crooked.

But I'm very pleased with
the free motion quilting
I managed to make.

So, all in all, a learning
experience. And as the saying goes
practice makes perfect...

so on to the next one.

October 9, 2010

My first attempt at quilting.
Not so thrilling, but I love the fabrics and
I'm sure proud of what I managed to produce.

Anyway, I will continue practising
and maybe someday
I'll get there.

Here is the little thing again,
together with some comfort knitting.
